Our Japan Inquiry
The students of Room 2 and 3 conducted group inquiries about Japan. Each group chose a sub topic and developed their own questions to find out the answers to.

Our next challenge!!!
Our year 8 students recently went to Arataki to complete their next challenge. The wild, water walk. Have a read of Joana's experience.
Arataki- William Pike Challenge
Excitement and nervousness raced through my veins as the cold wind blew on my face, sending shivers down my spine. My right hand reached out towards my cheek, feeling the icy skin on my frozen fingertips. My black and pink Columbia shoes hit the solid ground as I stepped out of the bus and hung my purple, billabong bag on my back. I had a small smile plastered on my face but was soon replaced by a worried expression caused by the thought of walking up hills.
Firstly, we had a photo taken on the humongous picture frame. You know what they say, a photo lasts for a lifetime. There, we stood proudly with our cheesy smiles on while Miss McDonell took a shot of us on her phone. “This is going to be a great day,” I thought, walking on the footpath along with my fellow Year 8s.
Borrowing a long, green raincoat from Arataki, I made sure I was warm enough and completely settled in for the day ahead of us. The cold air ran down my neck, giving me chills all over as I tried to shield my body away with my two arms hovered on my stomach. It was required to spray the sole of your shoes to protect the Kauri trees before stepping in the bush, making me pout as I forced my arms away. It was freezing!
After 2 hours of walking and having a little break here and there, we finally reached the picnic area. I could almost feel my food in my bag trying to break free and my stomach kicking and begging to fed. As my eyes dashed to the tables ahead of me, I jogged towards it and sat down on one bench.
As soon as the lunch break was finished, we made our way deeper down in the bush only to be greeted by a huge empty dam. It was massive! My breath hitched and I nearly let out a small squeal. The park ranger let us have a little breather for a few minutes and soon enough, we were facing another challenge. I didn’t take notice of it before but standing in front of me were long stairs snaking up the cement wall. I took a deep breath and carefully walked on each step holding tight on the rails, cautious not to slip. When we reached the bridge at the top of the dam, I let out a sigh. “Phew!”
But I must have spoken too soon. “We’re heading back now,” the ranger spoke. That only means one thing. We have to walk up precipitous hills again to reach the bus ..uh oh.
